Dear all

Ravisutanjani, the man who made waves on social media with a cardless cash withdrawal from India's inaugural UPI-ATM at the recent Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai. Studied Computer Engineering from IIIT Allahabad, attended PGP in business management and marketing at MDI Gurgaon and many more qualifications.

Even PM of Bharat Shri Narendra Modi shared his tweet.

But what we all don't know is that his degrees and qualifications are all FAKE. The online world stormed after a series of Twitter post by @SatarkAadmi disclosed his reality.

This incident gives the idea of today's topic.

The "liar's dividend" is a term that describes the benefits that liars or those who spread false information can gain, particularly in the age of social media where news and information spread rapidly.

The term was coined by the American philosopher and cognitive scientist Donald Davidson.

The liar's dividend can be seen in many different contexts. For example, a politician who makes false promises may be able to win an election, even if they are eventually exposed as a liar. A businessperson who makes false claims about their products or services may be able to increase sales, even if they are eventually caught. And a student who cheats on an exam may be able to get a good grade, even if they are eventually caught.

By the way he is back again.

How I learned About Concorde Fallacy/ India's Largest Station / zzzuckerberg

Dear all,

In 2017, I first started buying stocks πŸ’Ήfrom the stock market. After going through

recommendations, advertisements, and suggestions,

I bought some shares of a penny stock πŸͺ™ that I believed to be a winner, or to be more precise, a multibagger.

However, the stock price started to decline πŸ“‰. After some time, I bought some more shares of the same company and tried to average down. I waited again, but the share price declined further. Being an optimist, I again bought some shares of that penny stock. And again, the price declined further.

Now, I stopped ✋ investing any further and also did not sold the shares. Hoping that some day it will give positive returns and I will be able to recover its value.

This tendency to continue investing in something that is not working out, simply because I have already invested a lot of time, money, or effort into it, is known as the Concorde Fallacy or Sunk Cost Fallacy.

Ultimately, the investment became a loss-making one.

This term came from the British and French governments' decision to continue funding the development of the Concorde supersonic passenger jet, even after it became clear that the project was not economically viable.

Here are some tips for avoiding the sunk cost fallacy:

πŸ•΅️ Set clear investment goals and objectives.

✍️ Regularly review your investments and make adjustments as needed.

🫑Be willing to admit when you have made a mistake.

😱Don't be afraid to cut your losses.

The sunk cost fallacy is a common cognitive 🀯bias that can lead to poor decision-making. By understanding this fallacy and being aware of its triggers, you can avoid making costly mistakes in your investments.

Bonhoeffer's Theory of Stupidity/How to Draw/Rechargable Keychain

Dear all,

Bonhoeffer's Theory of Stupidity is his idea that a lack of understanding or knowledge about important things can cause serious problems. He believed this lack of understanding could take different forms:

1. **Ignorance:** This is when someone simply doesn't know something. For example, if someone says vaccines are harmful without any evidence, they show ignorance about how vaccines work.

2. **Willful Ignorance:** This is when someone deliberately chooses not to learn or ignores new ideas. For instance, if someone refuses to listen to experts who explain the importance of wearing masks during a pandemic, that's willful ignorance.

3. **Self-Deception:** This happens when people trick themselves into believing something false. An example is someone who eats unhealthy food all the time but says they're leading a healthy lifestyle.

4. **Mass Stupidity:** This occurs when a group of people collectively believes or acts foolishly. If a group spreads false information online and many people believe it without checking, that's mass stupidity.

Bonhoeffer warned that these forms of stupidity are dangerous. They can lead to bad decisions, hurtful actions, and even harm to society. He said stupidity makes it hard for people to see the truth and do what's right. Examples of stupidity in action include denying climate change despite scientific evidence, supporting leaders who abuse power, and using hate speech against others.

Bonhoeffer's theory reminds us to be informed, open-minded, and thoughtful to avoid falling into the trap of stupidity.

we have come to our real work,

we have come to our real journey.

What is a Giffen Good/How to Lose Weight/100 Simple Pleasures

Dear all

Imagine that you are a poor person who lives on a very tight budget. One of your main expenses is food. You buy a lot of bread because it is cheap and filling.

Now, imagine that the price of bread goes up. This means that you have to spend more money on bread to get the same amount of food. However, you don't have any extra money to spend on bread. So, you have to cut back on other things in your budget, like buying meat or vegetables. This means that you end up eating more bread, even though it is more expensive.

This is an example of a Giffen good.

A Giffen good is a good that people consume more of as the price rises. This is counterintuitive because we usually expect people to consume less of a good when the price goes up. However, Giffen goods are special because they are inferior goods. An inferior good is a good that people demand less of as their income increases.

The price of bread went up, but you ended up eating more of it. This is because bread is an inferior good and you have a limited budget.

Here are some other examples of Giffen goods:

-Rice

-Potatoes

-Ramen noodles

-Off-brand cereal

-Public transportation

It is important to note that Giffen goods are rare. Most goods follow the law of demand, which states that demand for a good decreases as the price increases. However, Giffen goods are a reminder that there are always exceptions to the rule.
